VapothermŽ Announces Validation of U.S. Patent For Apparatus And Method For Delivering Water Vapor To Gas

May 4, 2010 Stevensville, MD. Vapotherm, Inc., the global leader in high flow oxygen therapy, announced today that U.S. patent rights have been validated for an apparatus and method for adding water vapor to a gas stream in the low flow Vapor Transfer Cartridge at rates ranging from 1 to 8 liters per minute. The technology is utilized in the Company's low flow applications for the delivery of high flow, humidified breathing gases in neonatal and pediatric patients. The U.S. Patent No.7,708,013 provides Vapotherm the right to prevent or exclude other companies from making, using, selling, or offering to sell or import the invention.

The Vapor Transfer Cartridge with its advanced patented membrane technology is used as part of Vapotherm's humidification systems and allows for optimal conditioning of gases, substantially increasing nasal cannula flow. The Vapor Transfer Cartridge is filled with hollow fiber membranes each defining a passage for the flow of gas, while warm water circulates around the exterior of the fibers. The hollow fiber membrane acts as a complete or partial barrier against bacteria while simultaneously allowing the passage of water vapor.

"We are pleased to announce this newly issued patent, is a critical part of our core intellectual property in high flow therapy. This further extends our leadership position in non-invasive respiratory care, particularly in neonatal and pediatric applications" said Bill Niland, Chairman and Chief Business Development Officer at Vapotherm, Inc

Vapotherm, Inc. is a privately held manufacturer of respiratory care devices for hospitals and home care use based in Stevensville, Maryland.
