Vapotherm, Inc has developed a high flow therapy system that can deliver breathing gases at flow rates of 1 - 40 lpm via a variety of patient interfaces including high flow nasal cannula.
Before Vapotherm, nasal cannula flow was limited to a maximum of 6-8 lpm due to extreme discomfort and adverse effects to the patient at high flows. The patented Vapotherm membrane technology delivers molecular vapor with nearly 100% relative humidity at body temperature. This warmth and humidity allows high flows to be comfortably tolerated by the patient.
Until now, patients with chronic lung disease and other breathing disorders have had limited options for their oxygen needs. For the typical patient, it's been a choice between comfort and efficacy. While nasal cannulas have allowed patients to eat, talk and generally feel a part of normal life, the flows of breathing gases are typically too low to satisfy many individual's requirements. Until now, higher flows through a cannula simply caused too many adverse effects and discomfort. Masks, on the other hand, do allow high flows but force the patient to make a trade-off for comfort and lifestyle.
Vapotherm and any medical device are to be used under the direction of a licensed physician.
